How a valuation works

  1. You bring your coinsAs they are, without cleaning them: cleaning can take a lot of value away from a collector coin.
  2. We examine them in front of youExamination under a loupe, weighing on precision scales, magnet test or touchstone test if needed. We identify each coin, its year and its condition.
  3. We make you an offerIt is based on the day's spot price, minus transaction costs and margin; for a rare coin, a premium may be added. It is always stated before the sale.
  4. You decideYou sell everything, part or nothing. If you sell: a written contract, payment by bank transfer or cheque.

Local history

Strasbourg, a minting city

Strasbourg struck coins for centuries. The free city issued its own coins, recognisable by their lily in full bloom, the city's emblem. From 1693, a royal mint set up in Strasbourg struck French coins marked with the letters BB, until 1870.

5 francs écus, 20 francs Napoleon III, Restoration coins: it is not unusual for a coin brought to the shop to carry these two letters. Depending on the year, they can count towards its value.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Is the valuation free?

Yes. The valuation is free and commits you to nothing: you leave with your coins if the offer does not suit you.

Do I need an appointment?

No, the shop is open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 7 pm. For a large collection, a call to 03 88 41 87 32 lets us set aside the time needed. On Sunday mornings, it is by appointment.

How is the price of my coins set?

For common gold and silver coins, the price is based on the day's spot price, minus transaction costs and margin. For a rare coin or one in very fine condition, a premium may be added; it is always stated before the sale.

How am I paid?

By bank transfer (instant) or by cheque, when the contract is signed. Purchases are paid by cheque or bank transfer, never in cash.

What should I bring?

Your coins, uncleaned, and a valid ID. Sellers must be 18 or over.

Can I change my mind after the sale?

Yes: you have a 48-hour withdrawal period (Article L224-99 of the French Consumer Code), except for investment gold.
